The market for Chinese ceramics and works of art continues to perform well, as both UK-based Chinese buyers and those in mainland China & Hong Kong maintain their interest in buying back quality pieces. We have also witnessed an increase in interest in Indian art and antiques over the past few years. As many purchases are made online, our high-resolution images, condition reports and trusted cataloguing assist buyers who may not see the item until they receive it.

One recent highlight was the £5,000 paid for a Chinese 'yen-yen' vase, drilled as a lamp base and consigned by a lady on behalf of her 93-year-old mother - who had been expecting £100 for it! Another career highlight for Director and Specialist Mark Huddleston was the discovery of an 'under bed chest' at a house in Clifton, where descendents of General 'Chinese' Gordon had stored a number of silk robes. The finest of these sold for £5,500.

Other recent successes cover the variety of this category of antiques, including a Korean Joseon style mother-of-pearl inlaid box, achieving £4,200, a Chinese celadon jade 'Chrysanthemum' dish, selling for £3000, and a unique Persian Qajar polychrome enamelled huqqa or ghalian cup fragment, Iran, 19th century, which sold for an impressive £2,000.
