Ceramics & Glass

Bristol and surrounding areas have long been fertile ground for the production of ceramics and glass - from Bristol delftware, though 18th century factories such and Lund's and Champion, Billingsley at Swansea, Nailsea glass, and our own Elton ware pottery at Clevedon.

From further afield, we have a strong track record of sales of the major traditional names such as painted Royal Worcester, Royal Crown Derby Imari wares, and early Wedgwood. Notable consignments include the sale of a Royal Worcester fruit painted six-piece miniature tea and coffee set for £1,150 in the Summer Specialist Sale 2025, amonst other successful sales of similar pieces.

Another major highlight for the ceramics department was the sale of a Martin Brothers stoneware bird jar and cover, dated 1890, which sold for £10,000 despite the damage to its lid.

The major names of the 20th century are discussed on our Modern Design page.
