Blue John is unique to Treak Cliff hill, Castleton, in the Derbyshire Peak District, and found in two main caverns therein. It has been commerically mined since the mid 18th century. There are a variety of veins or seams which display differing characteristics dependant upon their position in various parts of the mine.
