James and George Taylor constructed the Phoenix Glass Works at Temple Gate, Bristol around 1785. This was acquired circa 1789 by Wadham, Ricketts & Co. The firm, which was founded Jacob Wilcox Ricketts, John Wadham, and Richard Ricketts (the brother of Jacob), made flint-glass, coloured glass and bottles and was commonly acknowledged to be the largest flintglass-works in the city. The firm was dissolved in 1815.
