Private collection, Bristol - previously removed from Shortflatt Tower in Northumberland (home of famous greyhound breeder and winner of the Waterloo cup 5 times, Edward Dent), the ancestors having been the owners of these dogs.
James Armstrong, from Gretna Green, near Carlisle, was a hare-coursing enthusiast and owner of greyhounds, who painted portraits of many greyhounds, especially studs and winners of the Waterloo Cup (a tournament featuring the 64 best hare coursing greyhounds of Great Britain and Ireland, which ran from 1836 to 2005).
