Chew Valley Interest - Part late 17th century brass lantern clock, the 6-inch Roman chapter ring with wax-filled numerals, berry cluster half hour divisions and inner quarter hour track, on a further brass dial plate with engraved tulips and foliate scrollwork, further inscribed beneath the silvered alarum ring (now pinned) 'Cleaned By me Joseph Veale February 1697', the later two-train movement, numbered 7472, outside countwheel-striking, the case with strapped bell surmount and urn finials, Royal Arms crestings, and pinned side doors between corner columns on bulbous supports, the dial and case basically of the period, the movement later, 40cm high

Whilst THOMAS Veale is a well-known and highly-regarded Chew Valley clockmaker - see an example by him sold in these rooms, The Barrow Court Dispersal Sale, 1st June 2023, lot 44), JOSEPH Veale is apparently unrecorded as a maker or restorer, alhtough a 'Joseph Veale, Yeoman' is recorded in Parish records circa 1689.
