Mid 17^th century embroidered stumpwork panel, depicting Orpheus playing his lute to the mystic animals, the ivory ground with small bead embellishment finely embroidered in coloured silks and metal threads with a robed figure standing atop a hill before an oak tree, beneath a sky with sun, clouds and birds in flight, flanked by palaces, the left embroidered with 'M B', and surrounded by animals and insects, including a unicorn, elephant, lion, monkeys, fox and deer, flanked by fruiting trees with stylised pomegranates and acorns, 38cm x 51.5cm, in later giltwood frame under glass, modern handwritten label verso identifying subject
