The RSPCA Queen Victoria medal is awarded to people who have made significant contributions to the Society. It was instituted in 1837 and the young Queen Victoria, an enthusiastic supporter of the Society, actually sketched a cat to be included in the reverse design. Usually named in the exergue below the animals on the obverse, this example engraved around the rim.
