Clevedon Salerooms Sponsor 60 Degrees North at the Stradling Gallery

Clevedon Salerooms is delighted to be sponsoring 60 Degrees North – A Celebration of Scandinavian Design at the Stradling Gallery in Bristol, opening on February 24th.

Emerging after the Second World War alongside the modernist movement in Europe and America, Scandinavian modern style introduced democratic, affordable and sleek furnishings and interiors. The exhibition illustrates Ken Stradling’s passion for Scandinavian design, so evident in his Collection, and his desire to share this passion with others.

Ken Stradling MBE was buyer and latterly Managing Director at the Bristol Guild from 1948 onwards. Under his leadership, The Guild became a design shop that introduced Bristolians to new and exciting ceramics, glass, furniture and decorative objects from makers in Britain, Europe, and Scandinavia. During his  60-year career at the Guild, he collected many of the items that he also sold. Ken was deeply committed to sharing his love of design. In 2006 he created a charitable trust and gave the Collection a permanent home at 48 Park Row, Bristol. Through Ken’s generosity and vision, the Stradling Collection remains a jewel in Bristol’s cultural crown. Today, the Stradling Collection Trust exists to care for the Collection and inspire and educate current and future makers, making the Collection available to everyone to study and enjoy.

Clevedon Saleroom’s Managing Director Marc Burridge said ‘At Clevedon we recognise the importance of supporting local cultural organisations and I am very looking forward to supporting the Stradling Collection Trust’.
