Rosewood square piano
Console piano by Pape, Paris, 1840 The rosewood case with bobbin moulding and fretwork gallery over the wrestpins. Panel under the keyboard flanked by twin pairs of barley twist uprights. The inlaid and zebrano wood nameboard bearing painted cartouche inscription: Pape, Paris & Londres, flanked with inscriptions detailing prizes won in 1834 and 1838. There are three music rests above the nameboard, the central one inscribed: PAPE facture de Pianos du ROI. PIANO CONSOLE BREVET D'INVENTION. Two chased brass pedals operating keyboard shift and dampers, 137cm wide, 52cm deep, 98cm high.
