Single Owner Collections and Estate Sales

Single-owner collections are usually sold within our prominent Quarterly Specialist Sales, often as the centrepiece of these auctions, alongside other specialist pieces, fine art, and more. This allows other fine consignments from other vendors to 'assist' your collection, in order to achieve the best results possible for all parties. 

We were delighted to receive instructions to sell the Estate of Iann Barron, Barrow Court, North Somerset. Highlights included an impressive carved oak and marquetry-inlaid tester bed, which sold for a hammer price of £14,000, a mid 18th century oil on canvas of Henry and Susanna Hoare, which sold for £8,200, and the Barrow Court cellars, which (like the main part of the dispersal) attracted a highly impressive 98% selling rate. Through a specially produced catalogue, advertising in 'Country Life' magazine and the Antiques Trade Gazette, we attracted national attention - including one client from Nottinghamshire who arrived by private plane and spent £60,000 on the day.

Another Somerset estate yielded astounding results shortly afterwards, with the sale of items from the Clarke family of Gatcombe Court. Notably, Fortunino Matania’s oil on canvas, ‘The Last General Absolution of the Munsters at Rue du Bois’, which is widely regarded as one of the most iconic images of World War One, sold £21,000, and a 17th century stumpwork panel achieved £5,200.

Sales from Bristol estates, including Sutton House, Clifton, and Freeland Place, Hotwells, included highlights such as a George III mahogany-cased bentside spinet, which sold for £7000, and a collection of modern art, including Henri Matisse, David Hockney, and Sir Terry Frost.
