Caleb Evans, Bristol (fl. c. 1766-1775) - George III mahogany cased 8-day brass dial longcase clock, with 12-inch break-arched dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing signed silvered centre with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar crescent, within Rococo mask spandrels, the arched with silvered eagle and Tempus Fugit banner to a central boss between sea serpents, the knopped four-pillar movement rack-striking on a bell, case with gilt husk pendants to swan-neck pediment over diaperwork frieze, fluted columns, long trunk door and panelled base with apron and integral bracket feet, 240cm high, sold with two weights, pendulum, key and winder
Literature: Moore, A. J., The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650-1900, p. 165, records "Evans Caleb Bristol 1766 1775 45 Stokes Croft. Watchmaker and Jeweller". His son Caleb also worked at the same address to c. 1790.
