Distinguished Service Medal group and effects of Chief Petty Officer Telegraphist Cyril Robert Bannister D.S.M. to include Distinguished Service Medal (J X. 159222 C.R. BANNISTER. C.P.O.TEL), with box, 'Honours and Awards' letter dated 30th June 1943, two investiture tickets, and Admiralty Whitehall card, First World War medals comprising; War Medal, Victory Medal, 1914-15 Star (J. 32883 C.R. BANNISTER O TEL R.N. and L. TEL. R.N.), Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (J. 32883 C.R. BANNISTER, P.O.TEL. H.M.S. EGMONT), and Silver Jubilee Medal, Second World War medal comprising 1939-45 War Medal, The Africa Star, The Atlantic Star, The Italy Star, The 1939-1945 Star, with ribbons and box, epaulettes, patches, ribbon bars, George VI and Elizabeth Coronation programme, certificate of service, various papers, diary titled 'My two years commission in H.M.S. Carlisle from the time of leaving England till my return', photographs, etc.
Cyril Robert Bannister was born on the 14th April 1898 in Newbury, Berkshire. He later moved to Bristol and lived at 55 Claremont Road, Bishopston. This collection has been consigned by his grandson.
During his distinguished naval career he took part in the Battle of Jutland, and possibly the Atlantic Convoys. Certificate of service reference ships to include Delhi, Victory, Carlisle, Egmont, Birmingham, Mercury, etc.
