Clevedon Salerooms held their latest Interiors sale at the Kenn Road Auction Centre on Thursday 15th May. With a bumper offering of over 700 lots, strong bidding throughout the day and an impressive 90% selling rate, the sale represented another resounding success for Clevedon Salerooms.
Adding some showbiz sparkle to the packed saleroom were the teams from BBC’s Antiques Road Trip. Team captains Bee Harford and Raj Bisram were joined by David Harper and Roo Irvine. Everyone certainly seemed to enjoy their visit to the salerooms and indulged in some good humoured banter on and off screen. No spoilers, you’ll have to tune-in later this year to find out how they got on.
As always, the jewellery section opened the sale and it was here that many of the day’s top prices were to be found. Leading the way, a Greek rams head torque bangle, the yellow metal stamped '585' and weighing 33g more than proved its worth, selling for £1,900. A 9ct rose gold graduated curb link Albert / watch chain also did well, selling for £1,500, whilst a yellow and rose gold-coloured fancy link bracelet sold for £800. Gold Sovereigns continued their current run of high prices; an Edward VII gold sovereign, 1909 sold for £580, the same price as a George V gold sovereign, 1914, whilst an Elizabeth II gold sovereign, 1974, sold for £520. Staying with precious metals, an Italian white metal four-piece tea set weighing in at an impressive 1650g also performed well, selling for £700.
Reputable brands occasionally put in an appearance at Clevedon’s Interiors sales and always prove a hit with bidders. So it was that a selection of Le Creuset kitchenwares, which made short work of its estimate to sell for £480.
Finally, the biggest surprise result of the day was an Edwardian style brass king-size bed and new mattress by the Cornish Bed Company provided the biggest surprise of the day. Attractively estimated it certainly hit the right note with bidders, becoming the joint highest selling lot, the gavel falling for a remarkable £1,900.
