Lights, Camera, Action!

Clevedon Salerooms held their latest Interiors sale at the Kenn Road Auction Centre  on Thursday 3rd November. With a bumper offering of over 700 lots, enthusiastic bidding throughout the sale saw auctioneers rewarded with an impressive 93% selling rate and some strong prices.

Adding some showbiz sparkle to the packed saleroom were the teams from BBC’s Antiques Road Trip. Team captains Margie Cooper and Ochuko Ojiri certainly seem to enjoy their visit to the salerooms and indulged in some good humoured banter on and off screen. No spoilers, you’ll have to tune-in to find out how they got on.

With the BBC camera crew recording proceedings it was appropriate that the star lot of the day should be a camera lens, one of three Nikon AF-S Nikkor lenses that soared above their estimates to sell for a combined total of £3,950.

As always, the jewellery section opened the sale, where top price was for a 9ct gold filed curb link necklace, which sold for £480. Also shining brightly, a Havila Swiss Made 18ct gold pocket watch, weighing-in at 74.5g gross, it made top price amongst watches selling for £800.  Also performing well in the Ceramics section, a group of Royal crown Derby ‘Old Imari’ tea wares sold for £700 and two Meissen monkey orchestra figures after 18th century originals by J.J. Kandler, which quickly leapt passed their estimate to reach £500.

Amongst the day’s other top prices, a Middle Eastern wool rug, of evident age and good size, which flew past its estimate to sell for £580. Clevedon’s Interiors sales always offer an eclectic choice. Appealing to those with an eye for fashion, a Mulberry ‘Seaton’ lady’s handbag sold for £380, whilst dog lovers were also well catered for as a Victorian engraved brass dog’s collar sold for £380. If any of those same dog lovers were looking for a four legged friend but didn’t fancy the prospect of vet’s bills they could have done worse than a ceramic lifesize model of a Pointer which sold for £320.

As Christmas draws ever nearer, Clevedon Salerooms are preparing for the next Quarterly Specialist Fine Art Sale on Thursday 24th November, with the final Interiors sale of the year taking place on Thursday December 8th.
